Socializing your puppy from an early age is critical to their development into a happy, well-adjusted dog. So, as soon as you bring your puppy home, start introducing them to new sights, sounds, smells and people. The prime socialization period is between 3 to 14 weeks, so make the most of this time. Take your puppy on walks, to pet stores, parks and invite friends over to play.
Expose your puppy to different types of people - tall, short, different ethnicities, wearing hats, glasses, etc. This helps them become comfortable with strangers and prevents fear aggression or shyness. Get your puppy accustomed to handling and grooming. Gently touch their ears, paws, tail and brush them regularly. Give treats to help them associate it with positive experiences.
Enroll your puppy in a puppy socialization or training class. This allows them to interact with other dogs and people in a controlled setting. Provide plenty of praise and treats to help them build positive associations. Socialization is an ongoing process that requires consistency and patience. Continue to expose your puppy to new sights and sounds in a gradual, positive way. Provide treats, praise and play to help them build self-confidence.
With consistent socialization from an early age, your puppy will grow into a friendly, well-rounded dog that takes everything in stride. Socialization requires time and commitment, but will reward you with a lifetime of pleasure with your happy, socialized pup.
Do take note that socializing your puppy with other dogs is critical for their development into a friendly, well-adjusted companion. Start young, as early positive experiences will shape your puppy's view of other dogs for life. You could look for a local puppy class or playgroup. These are great for getting your pup used to playing with others in a controlled setting. Let the pups interact on their own terms - don't force them into rough play or picking on other dogs. Give lots of praise and treats to help them associate other dogs with positive experiences.
Another way to socialize your puppy is to go on walks together. Walk your puppy in areas where you're likely to encounter other dogs. When you see another dog approaching, have some treats on hand and speak in an encouraging, friendly tone. Reward your pup when they remain calm and focus their attention on you. Keep initial greetings casual and low-key. As your pup improves, reward them for friendly behaviour towards the other dog, like tail wagging, play bowing or gentle sniffing.
Setting up playdates is also a fun way to socialize your puppy! Once your puppy has mastered basic skills, set up one-on-one playdates with friend's dogs. Choose playmates with a similar energy level and play style. Closely supervise them at first, providing treats and praise when they play well together. Keep these sessions short, around 10-15 minutes, and end on a high note. Playdates are a great way for your pup to become comfortable playing with specific dogs, setting the foundation for long-term friendships.
With positive experiences and consistency, your puppy will become a social butterfly in no time! Keep putting in the effort, and you'll have a faithful companion that loves meeting new friends. As a new puppy owner, it's important to expose your puppy to many different people, places and situations so they can get used to them.
Another way is to desensitize your puppy to potentially scary sounds by playing audio clips of loud noises like fireworks, traffic and crowds at a low volume during mealtime or play. Gradually make the sounds louder over multiple sessions as your puppy relaxes. This helps prevent noise phobias from developing. Following these tips consistently from the day you bring your puppy home will help ensure they grow into a friendly, well-socialized companion. These are just the basics of puppy socialization.
While it may seem like a lot of work, especially in those early weeks of puppy parenthood when you're still adjusting to a new furry family member, putting in the time and effort to properly socialize your puppy will pay off hugely in the long run. A well-socialized puppy will grow into a friendly, confident, and obedient dog. They'll be comfortable in new situations, greeting people and other dogs with an eager wag of the tail instead of a suspicious growl.
Puppyhood only lasts for a short time, so make the most of it and get your puppy out and about, introducing them to the world in a positive, rewarding way. Their future behaviour and ability to adapt depends on the socialization they receive right now. So get to it, puppy parents - the clock is ticking! With patience and persistence, you'll raise a puppy that's a pleasure to take anywhere.

Turns out, it is possible to be a calm and centered mom, no matter what each day throws at you. The trick is learning how to embrace the crazy instead of fighting it. How? By practicing mindfulness, focusing on one thing at a time, learning not to sweat the small stuff, and taking time for yourself. Read on for four ways to channel your inner yogi mom and keep your cool when life gets messy.
Being a mom is one of the hardest jobs out there. Between the sleepless nights, tantrums, and constant needs of little ones, motherhood can feel like controlled chaos. But believe it or not, you can find zen even in the crazy moments. So, here's what you do:
Embrace the stress
First, accept that some stress and messiness comes with the territory. Stop beating yourself up over the laundry pile, unanswered emails, or dishes in the sink. Do what you can and make self-care a priority when you start to feel overwhelmed.
Go with the flow
Kids are unpredictable, so learn to adapt to changing situations. Did your toddler skip their nap and turn into a tiny terror? Roll with it and adjust your expectations. Stay flexible in your routines and schedules. The more you try to control, the more frustrated you'll feel.
Find moments of calm
While life as a mom might feel chaotic, there are still moments of peace to be found. Savour the sweet moments cuddling with your kids, listening to them laugh, watching them discover the world. Be fully present by putting your phone away and embracing the joy in simple moments together.
Motherhood may be messy, but by embracing the challenges, going with the flow, finding calm moments, and asking for help, you'll be able to achieve a little more zen - even when life feels crazy.
Cultivating Calm: 4 Ways Moms Can Find Peace Amid the Craziness
Being a mom is crazy busy, but that doesn’t mean you can’t find moments of calm. Cultivating a sense of peace and balance will make you a happier, healthier mom. Here are four ways to embrace the calm amid the chaos:
Limit Distractions. Turn off electronics and focus on one thing at a time. Do a single chore, play with your kids, read a book. Be fully present in the moment rather than trying to multi-task.
Practice Self-Care. Make time for yourself each day, even if just for 15 minutes. Do some light exercise like yoga, meditate, journal, or pursue a hobby. Take a walk outside in nature. Your own wellbeing directly impacts your ability to care for your family.
Ask for Help. Don’t try to do everything yourself. Call on your spouse, family, or friends and ask them to pitch in with chores, childcare, meals or errands. Let people who care about you support you. Learn to delegate and be okay with imperfect.
Find Joy in the Little Things. Appreciate the simple moments of beauty and laughter each day. Watch your child discover something new, share an inside joke, linger over a cup of coffee. Create rituals and traditions together as a family that you all look forward to. Focusing on life’s little joys helps make the challenges seem more manageable.
Being a mom is the hardest job you'll ever love. But by cultivating calm through limiting distractions, self-care, asking for help, and finding joy in simple moments, you'll be able to cherish it even more. Peace and patience, mama.
The Magic of Motherhood: Choosing Love and Gratitude on the Journey
The magic of motherhood is choosing to focus on the moments of love and gratitude, even when life feels crazy.
Finding the Joy
As moms, we have a choice in each moment to embrace the chaos or find the joy. It's easy to feel overwhelmed by the daily demands of mothering little ones. But when we pause to notice the sweet moments - a hug, a giggle, a "I love you" - we open our hearts to gratitude. Our children grow up fast, so savoring the magical moments of wonder and connection allow us to be fully present for the journey.
Make eye contact and smile at your child. See the light in their eyes and feel the warmth of their smile in return.
Listen for the laughter. Kids have an infectious joy that brightens even the most chaotic of days. Join in and laugh with them!
Give lots of hugs, kisses and snuggles. Physical affection releases oxytocin, the "love hormone", helping you both feel good.
Express your love and gratitude openly. Tell your child how much you appreciate them each and every day. Hearing those words will strengthen your bond.
Motherhood is hard work, but focusing on the rewards of unconditional love and joyful moments with your child will nourish your soul. Your little ones will only be little for so long, so appreciate each stage of the journey. The magic is always there, sometimes we just have to open our eyes to see it. Choosing an attitude of gratitude will make the days go by slowly, allowing you to be fully present in each moment of the crazy, beautiful adventure of motherhood.
So there you have it, mama. Four simple ways to find your zen even when life with little ones feels absolutely bonkers. Take a deep breath and remember that this too shall pass. Your kids will grow up before you know it, so do your best to be fully present in each moment, however imperfect it may be. Cut yourself some slack, lean on your village for support, and make self-care a priority. You've got this. Now go snuggle those babies, accept the crazy, and find peace in the simple moments each day. This amazing, messy, beautiful life is yours for the taking.

When you are out and about with your little one, it is easy to forget that you need to stop and change them! Our natural changing basket will save you from the embarrassment of having a dirty diaper in a public place.
Baby safety is one of the most important aspects of parenting. Bassinets are a great way to provide your baby with a safe spot to sleep. They also come in handy when you need to take care of other children or just need a break. You know, the way you always make sure that the mattress in the bassinet is firm enough and avoid using any kind of soft materials such as pillows and blankets as this can pose suffocation hazards for your baby, your changing basket should also be safe.
Changing baskets are safe if only used for that purpose. You should never leave your baby in the changing basket alone or unattended. We also recommend that you keep one hand on your baby at all times to avoid falls or accidents. Place it on a firm and flat surface, such as the top of a dresser. It is an important part of your baby's nursery. It can be a place where you change your baby, feed them, and just spend some time with them. In the past, parents would use a changing basket to store all their baby's necessities. Nowadays, we have many more options for storing our babies' things. We can use a changing table with drawers or shelves for storage or we could use a dresser that has one or two drawers for storing our items.
If you want to make sure that everything is always in the same place and easy to find, then you should consider using a changing basket on top of your dresser or on top of your changing table. Especially if it is in the nursery. A nursery should be a room that is comfortable, inviting, and safe. It should be a place where your baby can feel at home and explore the world. I feel that’s why they are decorated with bright colors and plenty of toys to keep babies busy for hours. I have seen images of the best nurseries ever; well-lit, with lots of natural light and soothing colors… And I bet that they have the right temperature and humidity to keep the baby comfortable.
Having your changing basket in that nursery is a very important part of the house as they provide comfort, warmth and security to the baby. They can be created in many ways and it is up to you to decide on what would be best for your child.

]]>Dogs have been involved in accidents with humans for centuries. In fact, the first recorded dog-related accident occurred in 1814, when a dog ran into a group of people and caused a stampede. Since then, there have been countless other incidents involving dogs and humans, ranging from minor scrapes and bruises to serious injuries and even death.
While most dog-related accidents are relatively minor, they can still be costly, both in terms of medical bills and property damage. In addition, some accidents can cause emotional trauma for both the victim and the dog owner. This is why it's so important to train your dog properly; not only will it help keep them safe, it will also help keep everyone around them safe as well.
Dogs provide us with an opportunity to learn responsibility in a way that is fun and rewarding. When we take on the responsibility of training our dog, we are taking on a commitment to help them learn and grow. This process requires time, patience, and consistency – all qualities that are essential in any successful relationship. Through dog training, we also learn how to better communicate with our furry friend. We learn to understand their body language and vocalizations, and in turn they learn to understand ours. This improved communication can help prevent misunderstandings and conflict, making for a happier home for both you and your dog.
1. Dogs should be trained as early as possible. The earlier you start, the better off you and your dog will be.
2. Use positive reinforcement methods whenever possible. Dogs respond best to positive reinforcement, so rewarding your dog for good behavior is an effective way to train them.
3. Be consistent with your commands and expectations. Dogs thrive on consistency, so make sure that everyone in the family is on the same page when it comes to training.
4. Be patient with your dog. Training takes time and patience, so don't get frustrated if your dog isn't catching on right away. Just keep at it and they'll eventually get it!
Training a new puppy is no walk in the park, so to speak. If you want a dog who’s thoroughly housebroken, doesn’t jump on guests, and politely waits for his meals, you’ll have a lot of work to do. There are two types of dogs when it comes to training: those that can be trained and those that cannot. Dogs that cannot be trained are typically either too old, too young, or too stubborn. There are some dogs are pretty easy to train, while some are difficult and require more commitment and work. However, nearly all dogs can be trained to some degree if the owner is willing to put in the time and effort. The same effort you would put in raising your new born baby. Patience is the key.
Dogs that can be trained typically learn commands quickly and respond well to positive reinforcement. These dogs usually enjoy learning new tricks and relish in the attention they receive from their owners during training sessions. Dogs that cannot be trained often require more patience and may need to be coerced into complying with commands. Training these dogs can be frustrating, but ultimately rewarding.
Whether a dog can be trained or not is largely dependent on the individual dog. However, there are some general tips that can help increase the chances of success when training any dog. First, it is important to start training early, while the dog is still a puppy. Puppies have short attention spans but are generally more receptive to new concepts than older dogs. Secondly, consistency is key when training a dog; if the rules for behavior change frequently, the dog will get confused and will likely not respond well to commands. Finally, it is essential to use positive reinforcement when training a dog; praise and treats are much more effective motivators than scolding or punishment.
A recent study has shown that people who have a dog in their family are more likely to have higher levels of oxytocin, which is the "hug hormone". This hormone is released when you hug someone and when you interact with your dog. Some people argue that in the past dogs were just animals that served a purpose, which was to help hunters find their prey. In modern society, we see dogs as an important part of the family, that is why they need thorough training. You can’t just walk on the street and expect a stray dog to hug you back right? Unless you want a survival story to tell your grandkids!
People have emotional connections with their pets. Pets can provide unconditional love and companionship which can lead to an emotional attachment. This attachment causes people to view their pet as one of the family members they get to spend time with on a daily basis. In addition, there are many studies that show how dogs are a source of stress relief and can be used as therapy animals in facilities such as nursing homes and hospitals. Train your dog. The benefits surpass expectations. A major benefit is that you get to buy them the most amazing, ethical ly produced woven dog basket to make them feel at home!
We advise consumers to always seek the advice of a veterinarian, veterinary specialist or other qualified veterinary healthcare provider with any questions regarding a pet’s health or medical conditions.
]]>Why Socialize Your Dog Around Babies?
It's important to socialize your dog around babies. Not only will it help your dog get used to being around them (which can be helpful if you ever have kids), but it'll also teach your dog some important manners. It is known that babies are a lot of work, and you don't want your dog to be the one who's constantly jumping on them or trying to lick their face. It can be really frustrating when you're trying to take care of a baby and your dog is being a nuisance. So, make sure to start socializing your dog early on, and be consistent with it. It might take a little bit of time, but it'll be worth it in the end.
So you've just brought home a new baby. Congratulations! As a responsible dog owner, you know it's important to start the socializing process right away. But when is the best time to start this process? And how do you go about it? Here are a few starting tips:
It's important to socialize your dog around babies. To do it safely and effectively, first, make sure your dog is well-behaved and knows how to sit, stay, and come when called. That's important when there are kids around. Second, keep your dog on a leash at all times, or outside. You don't want them running up to a baby uninvited.
Finally, always be aware of your surroundings. If there are other kids around who may be scared of dogs, be sure to keep your pup away from them. The million-dollar question usually comes in when you are wondering, ‘what if my baby is not used to or likes babies?’ It happens. But all hope is not lost. So, what do you do if your dog isn't good around babies? The first step is to start socializing them as early as possible. Introduce them to babies when they're still puppies, and let them see and smell them.
If that's not possible, or if your dog is already an adult, you can start by bringing a baby blanket or toy to your house and letting your dog sniff it. Then, slowly introduce the baby to your dog one-on-one. Make sure you're always close by in case things get too rowdy. The most important thing is to be patient and keep trying. With a little bit of work, you can help your dog get used to the new addition to the family.
Here are a few tips for socializing your dog around babies:
Mama, papa… it can be nerve-wracking when you have a baby and a new dog in the house. You want to make sure that your dog is comfortable around your little one, and the best way to do that is to socialize them together. There are a few different ways to do this. You can bring your baby and dog to a pet-friendly park, or you can attend a puppy class that's specifically geared towards baby/dog interactions.
If you're not comfortable taking your dog out in public, there are plenty of online resources that can help. YouTube has a ton of great videos that show how to socialize your dog with a baby, and there are also websites and articles that can give you more specific advice based on your individual situation. All in all, introducing your dog to babies can be a scary proposition, but it's important to do so early on so that they can get used to each other. Dogs who are properly socialized are less likely to act out around babies and are more likely to be calm and well-behaved.
If you're not sure how to introduce your dog to a baby, there are plenty of resources online that can help. And if you have any questions, don't hesitate to ask your veterinarian for advice.
]]>After a nine-month adjustment to life inside the womb, your newborn will be faced with new challenges to get used to life outside the womb. Life outside the womb means no dark spaces and no constant temperature. It also means that there are other people present, which may be quite different from what they are used to. They have to get used to loud voices, bright lights, and constant movement. They also have much less space in which to roam freely and practice crawling or hiccup-inducing gymnastics as they did in utero.
With new people speaking weird gibberish, and the whole place much more cold and drafty than they’re used to, newborns have a lot to take in when they enter the world. It’s a big adjustment for any baby, but there are ways you can make it easier for them. Newborns need time to get accustomed to their new home. It’s safe to say that becoming a parent is one of the most exciting experiences in life, but that doesn’t mean it’s always easy! The first few months with your newborn can feel overwhelming as you adjust to your new role as a caretaker, and your child adjusts to life outside the womb.
If you’re a parent reading this article, it’s probably because you are already, or are about to become one very soon (congrats!). As with any new responsibility, parenting comes with its own set of challenges that you may not be prepared for just yet. However, if you’ve read this far into this article, then you’re clearly ready for it! Here are 6 quick tips that will help both of you adjust to your new lives together more smoothly and easily.
It's tempting to want to hover over your newborn and protect them from everything, but it's important to give them some space. Let them experience the world around them and explore a bit. It's good for their development and will help them feel more comfortable in their new surroundings.
Babies are born with a strong survival instinct. So, when they first meet you, their caregiver, they're not thinking, Oh, this is the person who will love and care for me. Instead, they're thinking, Who are you? I don't know you. It takes time for them to learn to trust you and feel comfortable with you. The worry comes in, I know... but the first stage of change is never easy. But, it does get better!
When it comes to newborn development, encouraging curiosity is key. And what better way to do that than with stimulating toys? Look for toys that make noise, light up, or are otherwise visually interesting. These will help your baby start to understand cause and effect. Plus, they're just plain fun!
Most newborns sleep a lot, but they don't follow a strict schedule. Your baby may need to wake up frequently to eat. Newborns usually sleep for 16 hours a day, but they may not sleep more than 2 or 3 hours at a time. During the day, try to keep your baby awake for at least 1 hour so that he or she can start to develop a regular sleep pattern. This way, they will start becoming more comfortable with their new space.
The womb is a loud place. There are all sorts of noises going on all the time, and your baby is used to hearing them. So when they suddenly find themselves in a quiet room, it can be pretty disorienting. That's why it's important to nurse them closely during those first few weeks. Not only will it help them feel more comfortable, but it will also give you a chance to bond with your new little one. It'll get easier as they get older and have their own opinion about how often they should eat. Just remember that it may take a little bit of trial and error before you figure out what works best for both of you!
It's important to remember that newborns need plenty of rest and sleep, so don't overload them with too much activity or stimulation. Get your work done as quickly as possible and then spend time holding, cuddling, and feeding your baby before it’s time for a nap. Newborns can actually self-soothe when they have their mother close by, so be there when she needs you most! You may want to consider bringing your baby into bed with you in the beginning so he is surrounded by your love and warmth during his first few weeks of life. The more contact he has with you now, the better he will do later on once he gets used to being away from mommy during the day while napping in his bassinet.
Starting life outside the womb can be a jarring experience for newborns, but for you… mama and papa, always remember to recognize that every day is a new day and anything is possible, focus on what your baby likes instead of what they don't like (like sucking on fingers), keep in mind that these phases won't last forever so do what you can while it lasts (and remember that they'll always come back) and lastly, patience comes with practice so stay committed to practicing daily! Get yourself an organic and friendly bassinet to carry them around the house to create that warm womb-like embrace. You can choose to line your bassinet / Moses basket with whatever makes your baby feel most comfortable. You got this mama!

]]>Point of View: You're pregnant and trying to decide if you should get one for your baby? Chances are, you’re confused about what to get as your baby’s crib type. There are so many options on the market, and you want to be sure you choose the right one since this will affect how your little one sleeps and how much space your baby needs to sleep comfortably. Look no further because our Moses baskets are the best choice you could make!
Why Use a Bassinet?
Bassinets are often seen as a crèche mainstay, but they're not just for newborns. They can be used for babies up to six months old, and there are a few reasons why you might want to consider using one.
First, they're a great way to get your baby used to sleeping in a crib. Second, they're perfect for co-sleeping, which is when you and your partner sleep with your baby in the same bed. (This is not recommended for all parents, so please consult with your pediatrician before doing this.)
Lastly, bassinets/ Moses baskets are super convenient because they're so small and lightweight. You can move them from room to room with ease, which is great if you need to keep an eye on your baby while you're doing other things around the house.
When to Use a Bassinet
Bassinets are a great choice for newborns, especially in the early months. They're cozy and small, which is perfect for a small baby. Plus, they're easy to move around, so you can take your little one from one room to another.
However, bassinets aren't just for the first few months; they can also be used as a bed for toddlers. That's because as your child grows, they'll start to outgrow their crib. A latter article showed how a bassinet can be a great way to ease the transition from crib to bed. So, when is the best time to use a bassinet? It really depends on your individual situation, but as a general rule, I would say that bassinets are best suited for newborns and toddlers. The general rule of thumb is when your baby starts to push up on their hands and knees, they're ready for the next step. It's really important to listen to your baby and watch their development. Some babies are ready for a big kid bed earlier than others. If you have any concerns, it's always best to talk to your pediatrician.
Why Our Moses Baskets Are the Best Choice
Our Moses baskets are small and convenient, so your child can be monitored in any room of the house. It's easy to move them from one room to another, which is great when you're juggling multiple activities around the house.
Bassinets / Moses baskets are much smaller and lighter than a regular crib. It’s easier to move from room to room, which makes it useful for travel, and its more secure. Our baskets often have higher sides that give parents relief when their babies start to roll.
A Moses Basket is a great choice for baby's first bed because it offers so many safety features. It should be placed in the parent's bedroom so baby can sleep close by and be easily monitored. Additionally, their high sides, and most come with a mattress that is smaller than a standard crib mattress, further preventing baby from rolling out.
Those of you looking for a crib for your baby have no doubt learned that they're quite expensive. But of all the options available, a bassinet is by far the most affordable. That's because they're cheaper and come with fewer features. Though that doesn't mean they're any less important; because with the chemicals in the world today, our organic Moses baskets are the best bet since they are natural, durable, affordable and safe for your infant.
Babies can be placed in a variety of places; including next to your bed, on the floor, or even outside, if you have a baby bassinet. They come in a variety of sizes and shapes, so you can find one that suits your needs.
Our shop has various Moses baskets to choose from, that are organic and 100% Authentic and ethically handmade by our weavers in Ghana (Fair Trade Program). Their natural material has bamboo-like robustness that provides long-lasting sustainability and durability. Easy to maintain and carry, providing maximum comfort to your little one. Your baby will thank you!

In this post, we'll give you some tips on how to choose the right bassinet (our organic moses baskets) for your baby, and how to make the transition from crib to bed as smooth as possible.
Why a Bassinet Is a Good Idea
Bassinets can be a great way to help make that transition to crib a little bit easier. They are smaller than regular beds, which makes them perfect for newborns and babies who are still getting used to sleeping in a bed. They're also typically closer to the ground, which can be more comfortable for your baby. Additionally, bassinets can be moved from room to room very easily, so you can keep your baby close by even when you're not in the same room. This can be really helpful during those late-night feedings
So if you're wondering if a bassinet is right for your baby, the answer is most likely yes. It can help make the transition from crib to bed a little bit easier, and it's a great option for keeping your baby close by. They're also a great option for when your baby starts to roll over during sleep—it's harder for them to roll out of a bassinet than a crib. Because of their versatility, bassinets take up less space in your bedroom, which is always a plus. And when your baby is no longer using the bassinet, you can easily convert it into a toddler bed.
When it comes to finding the perfect bassinet for your baby, there are a few things you should keep in mind. First, you want to make sure that the bassinet is big enough for your baby to comfortably sleep in. It should be deep enough for them to stretch out, and have room for them to move around. Second, you'll want to choose a bassinet that has a sturdy frame. It's important that it can hold up to all the tossing and turning your baby will no doubt do. Finally, you'll want to make sure that the bassinet is nicely padded, and has a soft, comfortable mattress. This is key for ensuring that your baby has a good night's sleep, and our moses baskets check all the boxes.
Some parents decide to skip the crib altogether and go straight to a bed, but if you're not ready for that, a bassinet can be a great way to ease your baby into sleeping in a bigger space. Bassinets are smaller and cozier than beds, which can make the transition less scary for your little one. Plus, bassinets are perfect for nighttime feedings and diaper changes, so you don't have to worry about disturbing your baby's sleep if you need to get up in the middle of the night. If you're looking for a way to make the transition to a bed easier for your baby, a bassinet is definitely worth considering.
Tips for a Smooth Transition
It can be tough for a baby to make the transition from crib to bed. But with a little preparation and the right tools, you can help make the process smoother for both of you.

How many times have you heard someone say, I’m going to get a dog? Lots of people think about it, but not everyone goes through with it. The truth is that, in many ways, your first dog is like your first child. So if you’re thinking about bringing home a new pet dog, there are things you should know before making that important decision. For many of us, the day we get our first pet is one of the most memorable and rewarding days of our lives. Not only are you welcoming a new member into your family, but you’re also taking responsibility for another life that depends on you to care for it.
It’s no secret that dogs can be man’s best friend, but bringing home your first dog as an adult may feel like an intimidating prospect if you haven’t had much experience caring for a pet. From finding the right breed to understanding how to keep him healthy and happy to managing his behavior, you need to be fully equipped to enable you to navigate your new role as a pet parent and avoid some common mistakes new dog owners make along the way. Take your time deciding on what kind of dog you want, in order to have the best experience with your new dog. A new puppy in the house can be overwhelming, but it doesn’t have to be! Here are our top five essential tips to make your first dog experience easier, smoother, and more fun!
You’ve probably heard about all the benefits of pet ownership and how pet dogs can be wonderful companions for families with children, but you may not know all the things you need to consider before bringing home your first dog. DNA tests allow you to better understand your dog's genetics. These types of tests can tell you if your dog is likely to be affected by specific conditions or whether they may pass on the genes associated with these conditions. Understanding your new pet better makes it easier to take care of them, with first hand knowledge on their needs and vulnerabilities.
If you’re thinking about getting your first dog, there are some key things to keep in mind that can make this exciting time safer and smoother for you and your new friend, and one of them is keeping them at their prime health. ]]>Swaddling infants is a practice dating back many centuries, but the manner in which babies are swaddled has changed over the years. It is an age-old practice of wrapping infants with a blanket snugly around their body. It is known for helping to soothe babies. Many believe that swaddling has such a calming effect on newborns because it mimics how they felt in their mother’s womb. The comforting feeling it gives helps baby settle down, go to sleep, and stay asleep. Some studies have shown that babies who are swaddled can sleep up to 2 hours longer. It also helps with digestion by keeping your baby from spitting up their food. It has also been shown to reduce the risk of SIDS by 50%
Swaddling also helps prevent infants from waking themselves with their moro reflex. The moro reflex (also known as the startle reflex), which occurs when there is a sudden disruption causing an infant to “startle.” They react by throwing back their head, extending out their arms and legs, crying, then pulling the arms and legs back in. We looked at a few ways you could swaddle your baby and keep them safe and snug.
The benefits of swaddling your baby include:
- Helps the baby sleep
- Prevents startle reflexes and calms the baby
- Aids in digestion
- Helps regulate body temperature
- Encourages healthy development of motor skills
Now that we have seen how swaddling helps your adorable newborn, let’s look at ways you could swaddle your baby and carry them anywhere comfortably lying in your bassinet.
3 Ways to Swaddle Your baby
There are tried and tested ways that you could use to swaddle your baby. Here are our three favorite ways.
Basic Swaddle
The first method is called the Basic Swaddle. In this method, you will need a receiving blanket and a swaddling blanket. The baby is placed on their back and then the receiving blanket is laid on top of them so that it covers up to the neckline. Next, the swaddling blanket is wrapped around them so that they are snugly surrounded by both blankets. You could also lay the baby on their back with the blanket already laid out, and cover them snugly as shown below.
Hands Up Swaddle
The second way is the modified version of the traditional style which involves wrapping a baby with their arms outside of the blanket and their legs inside. This type of swaddling is more popular because it's easier to do and it's also more secure than the other types. For very young babies (the first couple of weeks), it’s best to go for a swaddle that keeps their arms and legs in a natural position and doesn’t forcefully stretch them out before they are ready.
The ‘hands up swaddle’ keeps a baby’s hands near their face and their legs in the frog position. This swaddling technique is perfect until your baby is ready to start stretching out, which is when you can move onto a different position.
Kangaroo Care Swaddle
The third method is called Kangaroo Care Swaddle. In this method, you will need a receiving blanket and a large t-shirt or other cloth that can be used as a swaddling blanket. You should lay your baby on their belly with their legs straight out in front of them and wrap them up in both blankets as if you were wrapping yourself up.
It is also called skin-to-skin contact, where you hold your baby close to you, preferably naked, and cover them with blankets as needed for warmth - this method can be used by parents who have had cesarean sections or those who have premature babies
When you are ready to stop swaddling your baby, there are a few ways that you can do so. You can unswaddle them and place them on their back in their crib or bassinet. You can also use a wearable blanket that will allow your baby’s arms and legs to stay warm while they sleep without restricting their movement.
With that said and done, you are ready for a day in or out, with your beautiful baby swaddled and comfortable in their bassinet.

]]>After having a baby, it can be tough to get back into shape. But with these 10 tips, you can start seeing results in no time!
STEP ONE
Start by taking a walk every day. This is a great way to get your body moving and to spend time with your baby.
STEP TWO
Add some strength training to your routine. This will help tone your body and burn calories.
STEP THREE
Drink plenty of water. Staying hydrated will help keep you energized and healthy.
STEP FOUR
Eat healthy foods. Choose fruits and vegetables, whole grains, and lean protein to fuel your body.
STEP FIVE
Try going for a run if walking alone becomes too easy. If running isn't an option, try swimming or biking.
STEP SIX
Try new activities to keep things interesting. Yoga, palates, or another low-impact cardio program are all great choices. You can even try belly dancing, which is both fun and good for you!
STEP SEVEN
Find some motivation. Setting small goals will help you stay on track, whether it's buying a pair of jeans in your current size or fitting into your old clothes. And remember that it’s okay if you can't fit into them right away. It may take some time until you get back to where you once were, but with this article's tips, you'll be there before long!
STEP EIGHT
Set up a schedule for yourself so that workouts become part of your daily life rather than something extra to do.
STEP NINE
Be patient. Getting back into shape after having a baby is not an overnight thing; it can take up to 6 months for your body to get back where it once was, so be patient with yourself and the process.
STEP TEN
Treat yourself. If you reach one of your goals, like fitting into your favorite pair of jeans again, give yourself some sort of reward! It might be something small, like getting your nails done or seeing a movie with friends, but treating yourself will help motivate you to continue working towards your next goal.
